I do appreciate Vaxleth digging into why the whole Flying Dutchman arrangement in PotC only works in theory and is just kinda fucked in practice. like don’t get me wrong. I love that whole concept, but at the end of the day, you’re in love with a ghost and that ghost can love you every day of his long existence but he’s never going to be able to stay when he gets a chance to be there. He’s always going to have to go. It isn’t about choosing the sea or the Matron. It’s that he’s been dead the whole time and you’re only granted a brief illusion of what it would be like if he wasn’t. You’re only going to keep getting hurt the more you refuse to accept that there was no choosing here. He can’t stay, not because he doesn’t want to but because he’s dead and he has a job to do.

A lot of people seem to think Charles’s internal bleeding was caused by the rocks being thrown at him, but considering how deep he was in the water that’s unlikely, the rocks wouldn’t have hit his torso particularly hard because the water would slow them down

It’s far more likely they beat him up before throwing him in the lake, which is what I always assumed. We see Charles in the water looking pretty resigned to what’s happening, like he’s just waiting for it to be over while trying not to get hit too hard by the rocks. It seems out of character for him to not fight back at all, so there had to have been at least a few minutes between the beginning of the attack and reaching the lake where they beat him into submission
